What should you do if you found a stray pet?
Thank you for going out of your way to keep the stray animal you found safe. We are here to help reunite them with their family.
1Check the animal for identification. If the animal is wearing a license, call 970.226.3647 ext. 6 and we’ll trace the owner’s contact information. If the animal does not have visible identification, you can bring the animal to NOCO Humane or a local veterinary clinic to check for a microchip.
2If the animal doesn’t have any form of identification or the owners can’t be contacted, please submit a Found Animal Report by completing the form online, or visiting one of our shelter campuses.
3After submitting a Found Repert, you may either care for the animal in your home until we are able to locate the owners, or you may bring the animal to one of our shelter campuses. We will care for the animal while we attempt to locate its owner. Stray animals not reclaimed by their owners after five days are evaluated for our adoption program. Please note: When entering the shelter, all dogs must be on leash, and cats must be confined in a box or carrier.
4If you are unable to transport the animal or if you feel the animal you found may be a threat to people or other animals, call Animal Protection & Control at 970.226.3647 ext. 7 for assistance. An Animal Protection & Control Officer will respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, but if possible (and safe), please confine the animal and call during business hours.
