Seven-month-old Sympathy – a German shepherd and Labrador retriever, mix – was the first to find her forever home when NOCO Humane’s new Weld Campus opened for adoptions on October 9, 2023. Rebecca Sherwood from Estes Park was the lucky adopter.
Standing in line well over an hour before opening, Rebecca discovered Sympathy online and immediately fell in love, driving three hours roundtrip to meet her in person. “I was drawn to how beautiful and sweet she looked,” said Rebecca.
Once at NOCO Humane’s Weld Campus, Rebecca and Sympathy exchanged affectionate greetings, and soon after, were preparing for the drive back up the canyon to Sympathy’s new mountain home. Before leaving, however, Rebecca commented on Sympathy’s gentle demeanor, and renamed her Whisper.
“She’s absolutely brilliant,” said Rebecca, “we’re going to grow old together.” With access to plenty of trails in Estes Park, Rebecca looks forward to having a walking buddy during her morning strolls. And after just one day of living together, Rebecca noticed that Whisper “loves to prance around outdoors and already perks her ears way up when you say her name.” Thanks to NOCO Humane’s Weld Campus, Rebecca and Whisper are able to settle down and become life-long companions for each other.
NOCO Humane – formerly Larimer Humane Society – was established on October 2, 2023 as part of an expansion of animal welfare services into Weld County. Staff at NOCO Humane’s Weld Campus (located at 1620 42nd Street in Evans, CO) have spent the first week moving into the shelter formerly operated by the Humane Society of Weld County while simultaneously rolling out services. The Weld Campus currently offers lost and found pet services, stray animal intake, pet surrenders, and adoptions. Services at NOCO Humane’s Weld Campus are available from 12-6pm on weekdays, and 11am-5pm on weekends.
