There’s nothing like hitting the open road with your four legged friend by your side. At Yoder Chevrolet, we believe in making every journey safe and enjoyable for both you and your pet. This June, we’re excited to partner with NOCO Humane, and for every vehicle sold, we’re donating $100 to support animals in need. To help you prepare for your next adventure, here are ten tips for road-tripping with your pet, featuring some of the great amenities in our Chevrolet vehicles.
1. Plan Your Route and Stops
Before you hit the road, plan your route and identify pet-friendly stops along the way. Regular breaks are essential for your pet to stretch, hydrate, and relieve themselves. A quick game of fetch might not hurt either!
2. Ensure a Comfortable Ride
Chevrolet vehicles like the Equinox and Traverse offer spacious interiors, providing plenty of room for your pet to ride comfortably. Consider using a pet seat cover or travel hammock to protect your seats and give your pet a cozy spot. At Yoder Chevrolet we even have durable floor liners for sale in our pro shop.
3. Keep Your Pet Secure
Safety is vital. Use a pet harness, carrier, or crate to keep your pet secure while driving. The Chevrolet Suburban offers ample cargo space, making it easy to secure a crate or carrier, or several if you have a whole pack of pals with you!
4. Pack Essentials
Bring along all the necessities, including food, water, bowls, toys, and a first-aid kit. The Chevrolet Tahoe’s generous storage compartments can easily accommodate all your pet’s essentials. Consider packing our top rated interior cleaning kits, for those just in case moments!
5. Stay Cool and Hydrated
Ensure your pet stays cool and hydrated during the trip. Many Chevrolet models come with dual-zone climate control, so you can keep the back seat at a comfortable temperature for your pet. They think they’re in charge anyway, might as well give 'em all access when it comes to their AC during a long trip.
6. Use a Calming Diffuser
For pets prone to anxiety, a calming diffuser can help. The Chevrolet Silverado’s 120v outlets allow you to plug in a diffuser, providing a calming environment for your pet on long rides.
7. Take Care with Food
Avoid feeding your pet a large meal right before the trip to prevent car sickness. Instead, offer small snacks and water during breaks.
8. Keep Your Pet Entertained
Bring along your pet’s favorite toys and treats to keep them entertained. Leather seats make for great comfort, but they probably aren’t the ideal chew toy for your pal.
9. Be Mindful of Window Safety
While it’s fun to let your pet enjoy the breeze, make sure they can’t jump or fall out. Chevrolet’s power windows with child lock features can help ensure your pet’s safety. So they can get that head-out-the-window bliss, without the risk!
10. Know Pet-Friendly Accommodations
Research pet-friendly accommodations ahead of time. The Chevrolet Traverse’s built-in navigation system can help you find pet-friendly hotels and rest stops along your route.
