What is a virtual walk/run?
So glad you asked! Participating in a virtual walk/run allows you to choose the time and place of your 5K while still supporting homeless pets! You can choose to walk or run anytime of day, on the treadmill, in your favorite park, or around your neighborhood. Track your time to compete against fellow participants on your own schedule! It’s a great way to support the animals at Larimer Humane Society while having fun!
Register today and receive the early bird discount! Don’t wait – discount only available through April 26th!

How do I track my time? Are there still prizes for top finishers?
Great questions – all you need to compete is your smartphone! Simply download the free Strava app and create an account. Under the “explore” tab, click on “clubs” and search for Fire Hydrant 5K. Once you join, you can race and track your time to see where you rank against other participants on our leaderboard! You can walk/run your 5K anytime between 5/23-5/30. Our top three individual finishers on Strava will receive awards, and our top three dog finishers will earn prize packs courtesy of our Presenting Sponsor, Poudre Pet & Feed Supply.

Will I still receive the commemorative 30th annual event t-shirt and a goodie bag?
You better believe it! Beginning the week of May 11, t-shirts will be mailed to participants using the address provided during registration. For participants registering on or after Monday, May 25, we cannot guarantee your t-shirt will arrive before event day. To ensure we are able to provide your desired t-shirt size, and to ensure you receive your shirt by event day, we recommend registering early! Goodie bags will be entirely virtual this year, so you’ll be receiving your digital swag and coupons via email in time for race day.
-
Do I have to walk or run to participate?
Heck no! Prefer to “sleep in for the cause?” Select our “Cat Nap” option when you register. Your support (while sipping coffee in your jammies) will still support the animals. Cat Nappers receive the commemorative 30th annual event t-shirt, the virtual goodie bag, and can fundraise for great prizes!
-
What about the Paws on the Promenade Expo?
Yep – still happening! This year you can enjoy the Paws on the Promenade Expo like never before – from the comfort of your own home! Keep an eye out in your inbox for this year’s virtual expo map so that you can explore the expo, check out vendor booths, support local businesses and organizations, and may even score some cool giveaways!
-
Will there still be opportunities for my dogs to be involved?
Of course! We couldn’t host the best canine party of the year without our furry friends, and now they can get in on the FH5K gear, too! Individuals who add a $30 donation to their registration fee will receive a dog bandanna and vinyl sticker bearing the anniversary design. How cute will you and your pup look together in your commemorative t-shirt and matching bandanna? Additionally, the top dog finishers on Strava will be eligible for prizes, and starting 5/18 we’ll be hosting virtual contests for you and your pup. You can enter your dog in various contests throughout the week, and contest winners will be announced on event day. Winners will also receive prize baskets from Poudre Pet & Feed Supply, so practice your tricks and get ready for some fun!
-
Can I still fundraise for the animals?
Absolutely – the current uncertainty makes support for the animals as critical as ever, and your efforts can ensure every animal who comes through our doors receives compassionate care. Once you register, you’ll be prompted to create a fundraising page, and we’ll provide you with tips and tricks along the way as you work toward meeting your goal. You can also create a Facebook fundraiser for greater ease in asking your friends and family to support your effort! Click here and use “[YOUR NAME]’s Fundraiser for Larimer Humane Society’s Fire Hydrant 5K” as the title of your fundraiser so we’ll know to count these dollars toward your pledge total. Don’t forget to take a look at this year’s fantastic fundraising prizes at FH5K.org, and remember that your registration fee counts toward your goal!

I am new to fundraising – how can I get started?
Great question! Fundraising often takes a little creativity and persistence, but know that your effort will make a big difference to the animals in our shelter! Here are some easy templates that you can copy and paste to get started:
- Email Template: “Hi (contact’s name), I’m participating in Larimer Humane Society’s virtual fundraiser, the Fire Hydrant 5K, and I’m hoping that you’ll be able to help me! All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will support homeless animals. Your donation will ensure that animals at Larimer Humane Society receive compassionate care and a second chance. This week, I’m trying to raise $100. If you and four other friends can donate just $20, I’ll reach my goal! It’s important to me that homeless animals in our community receive the care that they deserve, so I hope you’ll show your support by making a donation to my fundraising page below. Thanks in advance!”
- Social Media Template: Can you help me? I’m fundraising for Larimer Humane Society’s Fire Hydrant 5K, and all of the proceeds will support homeless animals. Will you join me in making our community a safer place for animals? If so, please click on the link to check out my fundraising page (insert fundraising page link here).

Are you offering refunds if I’ve already registered and don’t want to participate virtually?
While this year’s Fire Hydrant 5K may be new and different, we’re working to create an event that’s every bit as fun and engaging for the entire community. We sincerely hope that you’ll join us, but if you’re still not convinced, you can email events@nocohumane.org and we will take care of you.
-
Why should I participate this year?
Although we can’t join together physically as a community, we can join together in the spirit of community. For 30 years now, we’ve done just that; come together for a day of celebration for the benefit of homeless pets. Animals in northern Colorado need your help now more than ever, and we invite you to show your support by joining us in a fun and different way (virtually) for the 30th Annual Fire Hydrant 5K & Paws on the Promenade Expo!
